Job Description

Job Purpose
To provide high-quality, person-centred nursing care to residents during night shifts,
ensuring their safety, comfort, and wellbeing in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery
Council (NMC) Code of Conduct and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards.
The Night Nurse will lead the night care team, administer medications, oversee clinical
practice, and act as the senior responsible nurse on duty.

Key Responsibilities
Clinical Duties• Deliver and supervise safe, effective nursing care to residents in line with their care
plans.
• Carry out clinical assessments and monitor residents’ health and wellbeing.
• Administer and record medication accurately in line with NMC guidelines and home
policies.
• Respond promptly to medical emergencies, incidents, or changes in residents’
conditions.
• Maintain accurate, up-to-date records and documentation in compliance with CQC
and home standards.

Leadership and Supervision
• Lead, support, and supervise care assistants on duty throughout the night.
• Ensure the handover process between day and night teams is clear, concise, and
accurate.
• Promote teamwork and a positive working environment that upholds dignity,
respect, and compassion.
Resident Care and Support
• Ensure residents’ physical, emotional, and psychological needs are met.
• Promote independence and person-centred care at all times.
• Communicate effectively with residents, relatives, and colleagues.
Compliance and Safety
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to data protection standards.
• Comply with all health and safety procedures and infection control measures.
• Report safeguarding concerns promptly in line with policy.
• Participate in audits, training, and continuous professional development.

Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
• Registered Nurse (RGN, RMN, or RNLD) with current NMC pin.
• Proven experience in a care home, hospital, or similar healthcare environment.
• Knowledge of CQC regulations and person-centred care principles.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and clinical skills.
Desirable:
• Experience in elderly care, dementia care, or palliative care.
• Up-to-date training in medication management, infection control, and
safeguarding.
